Copt Hewick Volunteer Fire Brigade -

probably the world's smallest fire brigade!

RW1 – road rescue unit/emergency tender, left hand locker equipment

Not all processes of a rescue operation require modern technology but they do require protection for the crews, and so the left hand locker contains PPC (personal protective clothing) as well as what's known as “small gear”.

High visibility, heavy duty work gloves and face masks for protection against dust etc are carried. The crew's helmet visors provide eye safety. Hand lighting equipment is also stored in the locker drawers.

Small gear, in everyday terms basic hand tools, are used where a rescue operation doesn't call for specialist equipment. For example, a small child caught in a climbing frame can be released by disassembling it.
